St Bernard’ Childrens’ Services
Established in 1975, St. Bernard’s is a voluntary, not-for-profit children’s therapeutic community accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, London. It has always strived to maintain the highest standards in the care being offered to the children and young people and families. St. Bernard’s has benefitted from having a qualified, dedicated and extremely experienced staff employed in the service.
Mission Statement
St. Bernard’s cares for children who have had difficult lives. We value each child’s individuality, needs and experiences. We help them by allowing them to be themselves, to feel what they need to feel without judgement; by providing a therapeutic environment, affording them time and space to heal through relationships, so they can move forward with their lives.
Our Values
St Bernard’s adheres to the following core set of values in carrying out our work with children and families and those who work with them:
- A safe and supportive environment is required for children to develop, to grow, or change.
- Young people need to feel respected and valued by others.
- All behaviour has meaning and represents communication which deserves understanding
- Understanding how to relate to others and how others relate to you leads to better intimate, family and social relationships
- Involvement in decision making enhances a sense of participation, responsibility and belonging.

OVER 48 YEARS EXPERIENCE
St. Bernard’s has been working with vulnerable children, young people and families since 1975 when it was first established by the Presentation Order before becoming an independent agency in recent years.
The fact that St Bernard’s has continued to provide its therapeutic services to children, their families and those who work with them for 48 years is testament to:
- The dedication and foresight of our founders;
- Our capacity as an organisation to adapt to the changing social and economic situation;
- Our ability to regenerate internal growth and change and adapt to meet the changing needs of children and families requiring support.
